Wow. I really wish I had looked back at my first posts before I quit. I have been looking back and catching up with my fifteen year old self. I can say with confidence that I have grown so much in my blogging skills. It's embarrassing to think that anyone read what I wrote back then. I'm also sure that in another two years I will look back and grimace at what I'm currently writing.

I forced out every word. My humor was dry. I honestly sounded like a baby trying to be a guru.

I do have a point to this though. Don't beat yourself up about your writing. Trust me, everyone sucks at first. Think of all of the professionals out there. Oprah was fired from a job at 23. Most of us know that Steve Jobs was a high school dropout. Yet this didn't stop them. It grew them into very successful people.

I have a challenge for each of you today. A somewhat painful one, but it's worth it. Go back through your posts to day one and read at least three old posts. When you are finished gritting your teeth go forward to your last three posts and read those. Can you see the change? Can you see yourself before as the old, and now as the new? As long as we keep writing, we will keep improving.

So, go be inspirational! Keep getting better and better until your a millionaire. (When you get really famous and make lots of money remember me. Remember that I gave you this inspirational post and I foretold the future. (Don't just remember me though, call me up, make your your right hand <strike>man</strike> gal))

Keep writing!

This is an article from my other blog that I spruced up and am publishing here so that you amazing people can read it. I just want to note that you guys are writers, mess up what I wrote. Over analyze it, under analyze it, make it your own. Take my ideas and turn it into something that works for you as an genuinely terrific individual. However, you may feel free to do exactly as I say as well. :)

The very first thing I do when meeting a new character is daydream. I love doing this, I have always loved daydreaming ever since I was a little girl. It earned me a lot of homework when I was a public schooled kindergartner though. First, I choose my character and put them in their world. And I have them interact with other characters and such. I let myself have bunches of fun with this step. I do anything I want romantic scenes, fights, crying like a Disney princess. And I try out different personalities and looks.

What do they look like?

I slowly fill this in the more I daydream. What do they wear? I like to add a personal item that everyone will someday see and start fangirling over because they recognize it as one of my characters. You know like, converse, red and blue handkerchiefs and shirts, bowties, scarves, and deerstalkers. These things will be a trigger when readers are out in public.

What do they sound like?

I like to also give each character a word or two that they would never ever use. Then one or two words that they use all the time. Maybe your MMC hates it when people use the word gorgeous (don’t ask me why), try making it a word your FMC uses whenever she wants to irritate him. I am always trying out new words to expand my vocabulary, try having your character do this and often misuse words. Fitting this in with your character's backstory will give them more depth.

What do you want?

Then for my next step. I tend to do this when I can’t think of a scene that I want to keep, but one that I want to write anyways. It’s pretty much the same as daydreaming. I just do it on paper. It’s a good writing exercise and it’s fun. Plus there’s no pressure on you about writing well. It’s all about finding out who your characters are. I often try out romances this way. But writing out backstories, nonessential scenes, and just goofy fluff is never a waste of time.

(I am posting this today to get my blog rolling again but you can start expecting posts irregularly on Mondays. I am trying to be more consistent, but I'm not promising anything because I have let you guys down too many times before)

Do you have any tips or things you would like to share? Please feel free to leave a comment below, I love, love, love reading what you guys have to say.

You thought I was never coming back? Yeah, well, so did I. But, because of my lack of being here for (how long?... almost two years) I have realized just how much I needed you and this blog to continue my writing career. You guys are my inspiration. Without this commitment my writing has fallen by the wayside. I have missed this more than I could ever admit.

As many of you know I went over to Wordpress for a while. I was getting sick of the same look and when I had tried to redesign TWoS, I only made it worse. Why did I choose green? Green is one of my least favorite colors, especially that shade. It killed my inspiration. So, I gave up instead of changing it and switched my domain. I had one follower there and it was not the experience I was hoping to have. Now, that's not to say that normally I wouldn't keep writing, even if I only had one follower, it just was one more thing added to the list of why I should quit. So, after not very long there, I did end up quitting. It was a good break for a while, but then it was not. But now I am ready to come back and start 2017 with coming back.

I cannot wait to get reacquainted with all of you. :)

I am really sorry to inconvenience you this way. But I have moved this blog to Wordpress, and changed the name to Writer Have Adventures Too. I feel I should explain myself and why I am leaving Blogger for this blog.

I have been having a hard time with inspirational posts. I am very tired of not finding a theme and background that I love that fits our name. And I am just plain ready to move on. I find Wordpress is a bit more my style.

So... if you love me enough... you might consider following my new blog. The posts will be much the same, so you won't have to worry in that respect. But I will not be transferring old posts, so I'm leaving TWS open just in case you would like to look through it.

If you have any questions or objections or comments, please feel free to leave them. I'll continue responding to your comments till the end of my days. ;)

Thank you for following me here and being such great friends. You are all the best.
Trust me, I haven't even gotten through one yet. But here's a little encouragement for all of us. :)

Your character's could be someone's OTPs someday. Or someone could ship them. Maybe you'll even start a fandom. Maybe even one as big as SuperWhoLock! Just think about that. All those feelings you have for your ships, someone could feel the same way about your characters some day. Alright, have a little squealing moment there. ;) I won't judge you. You should see the smile on my face from just thinking about it.

You could impact someone's life for God someday. People go through rough times in their lives, and books often help. Yours might just lead someone to Christ. Now that's something to smile about. :)

Friends can't bug you about reading it anymore. Just hand them the papers and sit back. lol, or your little sister.

You'll have the ultimate bragging rights. Especially if you're a teenager. Not many teenagers can say they've written a full length book.

God, family, and friends will be proud of you. You will have persevered through something not many people can do. You will have faced writer's block, plot holes, and difficult characters, and made it to the end.

Sit back for a moment. If you're having a hard time with your story, think of all the good things about writing. Think about the different things you love about your characters. Remember that time the words just flowed from your fingers?

And have fun! I don't care if it takes me twelve years to write my story if I'm having fun. Don't make yourself miserable. Pushing is good, straining is not.
Alright, I don't have a good excuse, but I know this time it was a really long time. Sorry. But, because of my absence it gave me an idea for a post.

You have that secondary character. You absolutely love them, but... you know they aren't adding to the story and they should probably be cut. "No!!! I can't cut my baby", you scream with your notebook/computer clutched to your chest. And so, your favorite Brookie ever is going to give you some tips on how to make your character worthy of staying in the story. Yay for Brookie! Now you're not so mad with her for ditching you, right? Right...?

If you haven't already, give them some backstory. This will automatically make her deeper and more important. After she has some backstory, give her a goal. Now her goal is a key thing here. Give her a goal that in some way crosses with the MC's. Maybe the MC is trying to save the world? Maybe for some reason this character can't let that happen. What if the antagonist is threatening this character's family if she helps the MC? What if she's looking for her lost father and the MC's goal distracts her from that. Use anything. Remember keep your imagination open and once you figure out their backstory don't set it in stone, SC's backstories can add immensely to the MC's. :)

The key thing I believe when creating and developing characters is to make every character the MC. Because that's what they think they are. So treat them like it. Just remember that their goals are the only things that can't be as big as the MC's. Otherwise they start to take over the story. Don't let your love for this character trump your love for your MC's or it's back to the start to completely replot everything. If you really get attached consider writing something on them later.

I am putting up a poll for you all to vote on! So don't forget to check that out before you leave. :)

Do you have any other tips to share? Are you going to tear me apart for being gone so long? Let me know in the comments!
And I must apologize, again, for slacking on posting. I haven't posted, I haven't written, I haven't read, really all I've been doing this week is nothing productive. But I am back and I promise to try to keep going. Like the little train. I can do it. I can do it. I can do it. I can do it. I can do it.

But I've decided to share a bit about three of my characters. They are all from my WIP A Saving Rose. This is a temporary name till I can find a better one. A Saving Rose is fantasy and YA.

So without further ado,

Rose (Rosie) Bordon Age: 17 MC Her hair is naturally that color.

Joseph (Joey) Hooper Age: 18 SC He is Rose's best friend

Hawk Age: 20 SC He doesn't really have a hawk, but the picture gave me the inspiration for his name. Rose's and Joey's guide.

For now it's being called the Trio of Light. That name came before we added another character, but that's besides the point. I'm going to try to give you a glimpse into writing a book with another person.

Pro: The first pro is that there is a lot of imagination going into this. Not only are your ideas going into this story, so is your partners. That makes for a very creative story.

Con: The con is that well, there's a LOT of ideas going into the story and yours won't always make it. Sometimes you might have a brilliant idea, but your partner doesn't think it will quite work, bye, bye Mr. Idea.

Pro: You don't have to do as much work. Say if you're writing fantasy like Owyn and I are, right now I'm working on history and maps while she works on the first draft of the plot.

Con: You won't always agree. Sometimes you want someone to die, and your partner's a softy. ;)

Pro: You have someone to talk to about the first draft. I've never felt comfortable talking to others about my first drafts because I feel they royally stink. But because Owyn and I are writing together I feel comfortable talking to her about it.

Con: Sometimes you start to slack on writing. Owyn and I have been working on this story for a year now. But because of our busy schedules we're still at the beginning. (That may have to do with the fact that we've changed the plot like three times, and added Callan, my baby)

Pro: It's lots of fun. I have had a great time working with Owyn on our book. I have been recently learning that I'm an extrovert and I love people, so sometimes I can get a bit lonely working by myself. Plus, it's a great excuse to have Owyn up for the weekend. ;)

Con: Sometimes it can get a bit annoying. EX: Arin, Owyn's baby, is a bit too perfect at them moment. Sure, she has a few emotional things, but nothing much. I think I spent ten minutes on the phone trying to convince Owyn to give her at least one or two more flaws.

Pro: You and your friend can really get to know each other this way. Before I moved Owyn and I were friends, but not super close. But while my family was still in the stages of moving (We moved slowly) Owyn and I decided to start writing a book. Since then we've become very close friends and have kept in close touch. :)

So there you go! If you think you like the sounds of working together, grab a buddy and start brainstorming!

New design!! I don't know if you've noticed the new design yet (I really hope for your sake you have), but it's our blogversary!! We've been so busy the past few weeks that we didn't really plan a whole lot. But there might be one or two surprises throughout January. ;)

Thank you to all you wonderful followers. I can't tell you how much Owyn and I appreciate it. Without you I'm sure we would have given up a long time ago. So here's to our lovely friends!! :) *Virtual hugs*

Tell us what you think about the new design! Be truthful now. What do you think about the green? Too much? I can't really tell. Give us your opinion in the comments! We don't want you to have to look at a design you think is awful while you read our posts.

Brookie

P.S. Owyn should be posting soon. I know a lot of you don't really know who she is, but she has had a very busy year. But she said she would try harder to write more this year!! So yay! And give her lots of encouragement when she does come back, that way we can keep her around. ;)

So, why do I think the deaths in the Hobbit have such an impact?

Thorin, Fili, and Kili have faults, weaknesses, and doubts.

Thorin: He becomes obsessed with the gold and with finding the Arkenstone. He lets it take him over. He even begins to think one of his company has stolen it for himself. He lets hate and anger brew inside. Thorin won't keep his word, he lets people starve outside his gates.

Fili: Is loyal to a fault. Even though he knows that his uncle is becoming a monster, he doesn't do anything about it. It's his uncle, the rightful ruler of Durin. He puts loyalty before everything else.

Kili: Is almost just as loyal as his brother. And according to his mother, he's reckless.

But they also have some good qualities. The fact that they are loyal, they are brave, and strong, they don't fear death. They would gladly give their lives for their uncle Thorin and for Durin. They make mistakes, but they realize what they were, and they overcome those mistakes. They go out and join the fight, they forget the Arkenstone, and they die fighting for others.

I think why their deaths make such an impact is because we realize that no matter how big a mistake, no matter how awful and cruel someone can act, they can change. And when we see that they finally made the great sacrifice to change, they died fighting for it. That rips us and tears us, because we know they could have lived greats lives, yet they were cut short. But even so, for those few hours, they did the right thing, and they fought a great fight.

So shed some tears with me over Thorin, Fili, and Kili. :') They deserve them.
Do you have anything to add?
This is a really short post. Sorry. It might look a little scary, but there aren't any spoilers.
So, I assume many of you have seen the last Hobbit movie, the Battle of Five Armies? I have to say I was a bit disappointed. But I enjoyed it anyways.

I have just one thing for you to chew on till I can write a nice, full length post on this. Why did the deaths in this movie have such an impact on many of us? I mean, the tears well up every time I see a picture of (You know who). There should be a post coming soon on my thoughts about this. Share what you think, without naming who died! in the comments. :)

There are quite a few books out there with horses. I'm here to tell you which facts are true and which ones aren't. (I am taking a few from the post I saw because they were important, but other than that these are my own)

1. Saddle breaking a horse takes months

No. Breaking a horse to ride might take a month, depending on how often you get out there. But saddle breaking a horse should only take a week or two at the most.

2. Horses scream in pain or fright

Nope. I have seen our horses get into plenty of tangles, our mare has even given birth, and I have never heard a horse scream. Now they can scream, but mostly they don't.

3. Shin Splints are serious

From what I've heard, no. I've never had to deal with this yet. But I have read this before, were the horse gets a shin splint and it's awful. People cry, it's the end. No. It's not serious.

4. All horses love apples and carrots

My horse hates apples, but loves carrots. My sister's horse loves both. Some horses don't like carrots, but love apples. Remember that horses are like people.

5. Horses get along super well

It might be true for some horses. But talking from experience, no horses ever get along well all the time. Our horses are always playing the nip-nip game and, well, horsing around.

6. Horses are loyal

Ha! I have always found this one funny because everyone thinks it's true. Your horse can love you, it may even only care about you, but horses are not loyal. This is a human trait that only humans have. Horses are built with a fight or flight instinct. If something truly scares them, they will forget all about you. As much as I love my horses, I know I cannot rely on them to somehow save me.

7. They always look majestic

I wish. Horses are wild animals, and whatever they can find, they will get into. Unless you are rich and live in a elite barn, with paid workers constantly out there, your horse will get scrapes and hurts. They can do it while getting an itch, playing, rolling, fighting. Horses will get messy.

8. They only sleep standing up

If you have a herd that is comfortable in there surroundings and comfortable with each other, they will sleep lying down. It's rare for people who don't live around horses to see this, but people who do, see it all the time. Horses generally have around thirty minutes of on the ground sleep a day. Now that's an average, they don't always lay down everyday.

9. Baby horses are always cute

Well, this one is mostly true. But when some of them get their winter coats not so much. Our little guys looks like a furry mule right now.

10. They hate/love dogs

Some horses love dogs some hate them. Some only tolerate them.

Was anything answered here that you used to think was true? If you have any other questions on horses for your book, let me know!

Right? Don't say no, cause if not, well, liar, liar pants on fire, hanging from a telephone wire. Why do you keep reading books then? Or watching TV shows? Hmmm? That's what I though.

So today we're going to view a few thoughts behind killing off your character. *This post does contain spoilers and I am not responsible for anyone reading something important before they watch or read it.

Downton Abbey 1: Pure agony watching her die. She's going to die, we know it, why her? Why so painfully?

Downton Abbey 2: Is he dead? I think so. Maybe it's just a concussion. Think on it for a year till we come back and tell you.

Downton Abbey Conclusion: Downton Abbey loves to torment. They also like to kill your favorites. So I say watch out for Granny, we will not let her die!

The Book Thief method 1: We don't know him, but it's should send shivers up your spine how he dies. Shivers.

The Book Thief method 2: Tell you before hand and watch as you get frightened every time someone does something stupid.

The Book Thief Conclusion: Mark is mean. He also seems to like to torment us, and he has a very interesting way of doing it too.

The Paradise 1: Was it murder? Or an accident? He couldn't have done it.

The Paradise 2: More murder?! Creepy...

The Paradise Conclusion: They like murder or the, maybe it was, thoughts.

Are there any deaths that you can think of? What were your thoughts?
So far I've gotten the writing contests going every other week. But I was thinking and hoping to maybe get some guest posts going at both of my blogs once a month or so.
What's your opinion? And anybody want to volunteer? Also if you have any other ideas let me know. For either of the blogs. :)
If you don't have anything nice to say... well you know... don't say it. ;)

But most people disagree with the way she writes. Why use big words when you can use little words?

But I ask, why use little words when you can add some spice to your story using the occasional big word?

Oh my gosh. I just asked you to oppose everything you've read on writing. Using big words is forbidden though, Brooke!

But really, what's the matter with using a mammoth word here or there? The pros tell you to find your characters voice. But then they tell you not to use big words. What then for the geeks, the English majors, the exaggerators? Are they going to be made dull because they aren't allowed to speak the way they normally would?

Also, do we want the future generation to grow up knowing next to nothing? We need to give people a challenge here or there. I dare you to add one big word to every chapter for a week. Then the next week put one on every page. Then if you're really crazy like I am, find a small word, then look up the synonyms and use one of those big ones that you've never either heard of or used.If you don't like it, go back to the small and easy words.

But don't go overboard. I do agree that Anne had a few too many big words. ;) Hide them, make them little gems that only the true readers will find. :)

Do you agree that there should be more big words in our novels? Or maybe you're going to yell at me for filling everyone heads with nonsense?

I like to talk about the MC, but today we'll talk about that character who doesn't know what they're doing.
I have one of those right now. Her name is Sadie, and she's going to marry the MC's brother. But other than that... well, right now she's useless. I will figure it out as soon as November comes. NaNaWriMo people! My first year of the 50,000 word goal. :)

So let's talk about Sadie, and whoever is in your book that needs a job. Let's first ask the question; Do you love them? Do they absolutely have to stay?

No. Then cut them out.

"The moment you write a character who doesn't add to the story, you've written one too many." W. G. James

Yes. Keep reading.

If you can't find the heart to get rid of them then it means work, just to warn you. Give them a bit of a background, it doesn't have to go deep. But what are they passionate about, why and how do they know the MC? Ask yourself the basics, you don't have to go really deep unless... well we'll discus that in a moment. What do they do for a living? Are they going to help or oppose your MC? This is one of the biggies.

Now, can you give them a bit of a twist? What if originally they're the MC's friend, but then towards the end they betray them. Maybe it's not even because they are evil, but they thought doing it this way was best. Or maybe they've got a deep background, what happened before they met the MC? Were they famous? Bullied? An alcoholic? In a gang? What if their past comes to bite them and in the process trips up the MC?

Or do they have something important to share with the MC? Did they get into a similar situation in the past, maybe they have some advice. Use your imagination, it's not just for little kids you know. Now that you're older you can harness it and use it to do what you love, write. :)

What do you think? Anything you'd like to share? Or maybe share an instance where you had a character who at the beginning was a nobody, then turned out to be really important to the story?

P.S. I did get the title from my worldview curriculum if you were wondering.
